Hello, well here is my experience for my Library visit. Though I have stated in the past that I am not fond of actually going to the library , but since this was an assignment, guess I had no choice now. I took the time to visit Bay Shore Branch Library, which is located 195 Bay Shore Ave. Long Beach, CA. It's a small branch, few books compared to a bigger branch such as the Long Beach Public Library. The Library may be small, but they have a good variety of books to choose from and with enough computers for a small classroom [with High Speed Internet] it can be a quite useful place for research.
Bay Shore Library offers books ranging from Children books to Teens to Adult. They allow you to check-out just about in book within the library, however, they minimize the check-out time to a minimum due to the low amount of books that they actually have. The local Elementary school bring in their students for special reading sessions on week days; the library also offers assistance on homework for teens and adults. The library also has a reserved section for health, where they inform their members about healthy habits.
They also offer service learning, where [a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthens communities]. So obviously it a great service, and especially one that will help the community prosper from its youth. Like I have stated before, at Bay Shore there are enough computers for the number of people that come in on a daily bases. Also, since it is kind of hidden, their visitors are kept to a minimum, meaning that you do not have to wait long before a computer is available. These computers are ready to go with Microsoft Office 2007, and are also connected to the web through high speed internet. If I were a library type of person, perhaps I would be there studying once in awhile.
The Library overall is a 6 out of 10. It is a small library and the check out for the books are only a few days at a time [keep in mind that I'm not a fast reader]. The librarians are very nice though, they were very helpful by showing me around and answering most of my questions. Like I said before, if I were a Library person, I wouldn't mind being their once in awhile to do my homework or just to pick up a book. Well, I hope you all had a good experience with the libraries that you have visited, if not I would suggest giving Bay Shore Branch Library a chance.
